What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, or forehead lift, removes excess fat and skin and tightens the muscles in the forehead to get rid of sagging brows or deep furrows between the eyes. Many men and women are displeased with the wrinkled, creased skin they develop on their foreheads with age. Excessive sun exposure can also cause unsightly lines and grooves across the brow. With a brow lift at Apogee Plastic Surgery in Biloxi, patients have been able to regain a smoother, more youthful appearance. If you are seeking a forehead lift, then Dr. John H. Miller should be your board-certified surgeon of choice.
How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
Brow lifts are typically performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. They take about 30 to 90 minutes to complete and is an outpatient procedure.
Dr. Miller will begin with a long incision either in front of or behind the hairline. Occasionally, the incisions will be placed in the forehead and/or in the upper eyelids. If your surgery involves an endoscope (a long, thin tube with a light on the end and attached to a camera), there will be four to six tiny incisions made in your scalp. Once the incisions are done, the next step is the modification or removal of the parts of the forehead muscles that cause wrinkling and frown lines. Dr. Miller will also remove excess skin and lift your eyebrows to a more aesthetically pleasing level. The incisions will be closed with fine, dissolvable stitches and covered with a sterile dressing.
Dr. Miller will go over every aspect of the procedure, so you know what to expect. Many of his forehead lift patients choose to have a facelift at the same time to create a smoother overall appearance of the face. You and Dr. Miller can decide whether you want to combine procedures or just undergo the brow lift by itself.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
An ideal candidate for a forehead lift possesses skin that has decent tone and elasticity, meaning it moves and stretches easily. You should also be in good health and have realistic expectations. Most of our brow lift patients are between the ages of 40 and 60, but the procedure can be used on younger adults who have developed furrows or frown lines because of stress, muscle activity, or an inherited condition.
What Post-Operative Brow Lift Care Can I Expect?
It is common to feel some discomfort after a brow lift. You can expect swelling, bruising, and numbness for 10 to 14 days and may even temporarily develop black eyes. The majority of forehead lift patients return to work within a week.
You can count on Dr. Miller to keep track of your healing and recovery so you will be comfortable through the entire process. You will be given specific instructions on how to care for yourself after a brow lift, and the staff at Apogee Plastic Surgery will schedule a series of follow-up appointments to check on your progress.
What Are the Typical Results of a Brow Lift?
Many brow lift patients experience increased confidence after the procedure, citing their smoother, younger-looking appearance. The best way to see how the surgery has helped other men and women is to take a look at brow lift before and after pictures. Nothing tells the story better than images of people who have undergone the procedure.
