What Is a Neck Lift?
Aging causes our skin to lose elasticity over time, resulting in a saggy, reedy look to the neck. This can lead to a loss of self-confidence and self-esteem. A neck lift, also known as platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty, combats the main signs of aging by tightening skin and creating a more youthful look. A neck lift can help with the following:
- Reduce the signs of aging, such as sagging skin, wrinkles, etc.
- Remove jowls
- Create a younger, rejuvenated look
If you are looking for the best care and results, then Apogee Plastic Surgery is the perfect choice. Dr. John H. Miller and his staff invite neck lift patients from Biloxi, Gulfport, Pascagoula, Hattiesburg, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, and the surrounding Mississippi communities.
How Is a Neck Lift Performed?
A neck lift usually involves two procedures: platysmaplasty and cervicoplasty. Platysmaplasty removes or alters the muscles, while cervicoplasty takes off the loose, sagging skin. Used together, these two procedures create a long-lasting, fresh, and youthful appearance.
When you undergo a neck lift, the two-hour procedure typically requires general anesthesia and is usually performed as an outpatient procedure. The surgery is sometimes combined with a facelift. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Miller will make an incision under the chin and/or behind the ears to tighten the neck muscles and remove any excess skin tissue. Then the incision will be stitched with fine, dissolvable sutures and dressed with a compression bandage.
Dr. Miller will explain the full procedure when you meet with him at Apogee Plastic Surgery. He will listen to your concerns and wishes and then help you decide whether a neck lift is the right procedure for you.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
You may be a good fit for a neck lift if you suffer from any of the following:
- Premature aging because of loose, sagging skin
- Visible jowls
- “Turkey wattle” or wobbly neck skin
- A lack of self-confidence and self-esteem
Dr. Miller recognizes that cosmetic surgery is an extremely personal decision, so he welcomes you to come speak with him about your options. Whether you are from Biloxi, Gulfport, Pascagoula, Hattiesburg, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, or the surrounding Mississippi communities, you are invited to book a consultation with the staff of Apogee Plastic Surgery.
What Post-Operative Neck Lift Care Can I Expect?
In the days following your neck lift, you may be required to wear a compression dressing. You can expect to be swollen and bruised for several days. There may be some numbness and discomfort, replaced by itching or a burning sensation that can take up to six months to subside while the nerves heal. The staff at Apogee Plastic Surgery will schedule a series of follow-up appointments to check on your progress. Most of our neck lift patients return to work within two weeks.
Before you undergo a neck lift, Dr. Miller will give you specific advice on how to take care of yourself after surgery. Your comfort and satisfaction are important to us so you can count on expert support and care during your recovery. Our office is in Biloxi, but you can rest assured that we will closely monitor your healing process no matter where you live.
What Are the Typical Results of a Neck Lift?
With the visible removal of the loose skin or “wattle” from their necks, many neck lift patients report that the procedure has made them look 10 years younger. To see for yourself how well the operation has worked for others, inspect a variety of neck lift before and after photos. These images give you a chance to see what can be achieved with the procedure.
During your consultation with Dr. Miller, he will be happy to show you his collection of neck lift before and after pictures, which include patients from Gulfport and Pascagoula. He will also make a point to answer all your questions fully, so you are aware of what can be expected from the surgery.
